Déy Roper

Hi, my name is Déy Roper.
My work begins with observation. I am drawn to small, unseen details in the natural world, like petals, feathers, water, and light, often photographing them instinctively rather than with a fixed idea in mind. Working primarily in macro and close composition, I focus on texture, colour and small shifts in form that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I began photography in 2022, and soon after, in 2023, I started experiencing significant visual loss, which has now resulted in me becoming legally blind. Since then, photography has become both a way of understanding what I see and a way of holding onto it. The camera is an extension of my sight, allowing me to notice details I would otherwise miss and translate them into something I can share.

My process is slow and intuitive. Rather than staging meaning, I respond to what feels visually and emotionally present in the moment. Across flowers, wildlife and occasional portrait work, my images reflect a curiosity about the world and the subtle experiences within it.
